The Ultimate Guide to Vegan Cookbooks

You know it, I know it, we all know: it can be difficult to be a vegan! Regardless of if it’s your first week, month, or decade of living the vegan lifestyle, we all go through ups and downs. At times we wonder if it’s worth the sacrifices we make, or we get stuck in a cooking rut, and feel like we are eating the same thing every day. When life gives you lemons, read a book about how to make roasted cauliflower soaked in lemon-tahini sauce. While you’re at it, here are a few other books you can read to boost morale!

The Happy Cow Cookbook

This cookbook has some incredible recipes from the top-rated vegan restaurants from around the world, not to mention interviews with the chefs and restaurant owners. Some of the ridiculously amazing recipes you’ll encounter while perusing this book include: Spinach Lasagna with Béchamel Sauce, from Israel, Porcini-Crusted Tofu, from New York, and Nacho Pizza with Pickled Jalapeños and Caramelized Onions, from Philadelphia. This is by far one of the best books that encourages flavor and spice in the life of vegans everywhere.

Diet For a New America: How Your Food Choices Affect Your Health, Happiness, and the Future of Life on Earth

This phenomenal book by John Robbins is a must read for any vegan or vegetarian out there. It is considered one of the foundational pieces in veganism literature, and if you haven’t already picked up a copy of this gem, you should! Even if you’ve already read this book, Diet For a New America is a great reminder for why we do what we do, and depicts the inhumane treatment of animals in such a raw way, you will be reaffirmed that you are making a positive choice. If you are in need of encouragement, or a pick me up for your vegan lifestyle, a few days spent with this book will surely do the trick.

The Uncheese Cookbook

For many of us, going vegetarian was the first step, and it probably wasn’t too difficult if you were already health-conscious. Cutting out dairy on the other hand… ouch. This amazing cookbook by Joanne Stepaniak has a ton of cheese alternatives to your favorite, previously cheese filled items. Non-dairy cheeses in stores just aren’t quite the same, however much we want them to be, but these cheese alternatives are amazing. This book includes recipes for Mornay sauce, smokey cheddar sauce, and Farmhouse Cheddar and Yam soup.

The Sexy Vegan

Not only does this book contain some awesome vegan junk food options, but it is freaking hilarious! Seriously, this is one of the funniest cookbooks out there. The Sexy Vegan will introduce you to such gems as “The Most Ultimate-est Breakfast Sandwich,” and “The Quote Unquote Tuna Melt.” This book, by Brian Patton will restore your joy in the vegan lifestyle, and remind you that sometimes you just need to pig out! (Pun definitely intended.)

We hope you enjoy these great vegan cookbooks!
