The team here at Spanky’s Kitchen just participated in The Seed Experience Expo and Conference in Brooklyn this past weekend. Great event! We are still trying to catch our second wind. Besides the positive feedback we received at our booth, I also had a chance to walk the floor.   I have plenty of observations to share with you which I will post later in the week. In the interim, I just wanted to share a quick update regarding plant-based diets.

An update to the dietary guidelines for Americans is due out later this year. Leading health officials in a letter to the USDA and HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) endorsed the need for Americans to eat less meat and more plant-based foods for a healthier diet.   The health professionals, 700 in total, led by Walter Willet, Harvard’s Department of Nutrition Chair, stressed how plant-based diets would reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and some forms of cancer. They also addressed the positive impact plant-based foods would have on our environment which has created a dispute between some environmental groups and the meat industry.

In last week’s post, our President Maureen indicated that by positioning Spanky’s current product line as plant-based foods, we will have a broader market appeal – vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians. Accordingly, checkout our website to learn more about our current line of decadently delicious brownies, cookies and blondies made with natural ingredients and nutritious coconut oil. This is just the beginning. Spanky’s Kitchen’s dream moving forward? We will evolve into the America’s preferred premium plant-based foods company.
