Tasty kale chip recipe

 

Tip: When making these chips it is best to purchase the darkest, freshest kale you find.

Ingredients

  •       One bunch of Kale rinsed and dried
  •       Olive Oil
  •       Sea Salt and other seasonings (optional)

 

Directions:

  •       Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  •       Remove Kale leaves from the stems and cut them to a chip like size.
  •       Place kale in a large bowl (keeping it loose)
  •       Toss with the one Tablespoon of Oil until lightly coated. (If the bunch of kale is extra large and need more olive oil  add the oil one teaspoon at a time as you don’t want the kale to become too oily)
  •       Sprinkle with sea salt (and other seasonings of your choice)
  •       Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 or 6 minutes toss the chips gently and bake for an additional 5 or 6 minutes.
  •       Be careful that your chips do not burn!

 

Optional Seasonings

The recipe above is for basic kale chips. For those who want their chips to have a little heat or a slightly different taste you can try the following seasonings or combinations of seasons.

  •       Lemon pepper- Add prior to cooking and this seasoning will give your chips a faint lemony pepper taste.
  •       Red pepper flakes- add prior to cooking for chips that have a little bit of heat.
  •       Mix onion and garlic powder together and sprinkle on chips before baking.

 

Kale chips are yummy when eaten by themselves, but if you are the kind of person who finds themselves wanting to dip those chips, then choosing a vegan spinach and artichoke dip or some protein packed hummus will keep you keeping with your healthy snacking while allowing to indulge in those creamy dips.

Try Them As A Side

While Kale chips might well be the perfect low calorie snack, they also make great sides. If you are looking for a low calorie and completely vegan lunch try making a vegan burger using a Tempeh patty, inside a Portobello bun with a side of kale chips. It makes for a fun and colorful lunch and those chips are the perfect accompaniment with your burger.

Kale chips also make a great side with a fresh tomato, cucumber, and onion salad marinated in italian dressing. The salad has a fresh taste and replacing those crusty slices of bread or crackers with kale chips adds a tasty and healthy crunch that goes well with the salad.
